Iceland's last total solar eclipse was in 1954. The next won't happen until 2196. For one afternoon, the path of totality ran straight through Hellissandur, and totality overlapped the Perseid meteor shower, a pairing that won't come around again.
Home to just 400 people and set at the westernmost edge of Iceland with minimal light pollution, Hellissandur put guests within reach of glaciers, black sand beaches, lava fields and ice caves, all inside one geologically dense peninsula.
Icelandic and international artists brought local stories, landscapes and legends to life across the town in the Murals of Hellissandur, a living, community-driven canvas that guests could walk between programming blocks.
We came from more than 75 countries to gather at the edge of the Earth, beneath Snæfellsjökull, for total darkness that lasted just over two minutes.
Guests spent an average of 2+ minutes on site before ever booking, well above a typical event campaign.

Iceland Eclipse continues a tradition of global gatherings that celebrate rare celestial alignments, a shared moment of wonder for humankind. Before Iceland, IMXP produced Texas Eclipse 2024: 38,000+ attendees from 40 countries and 300+ contributors, called "a celestial event like no other, blending the ultimate Burning Man, Art Basel, SXSW, and TED Talks into one" by Uproxx.
IMXP is already building the next Icelandic gathering. Where Iceland Eclipse asked guests to travel to the edge of the world for two minutes, Midnight Sun moves into the heart of a city, at double the scale, for three days built around a sun that never sets.
